Why people don't overcome problems easily

When we face problems we make mistakes and suffer and that makes the problem even worse. Problems are temporary but it is us who decide how much time it will last. If we don't get out of the situation early it will become even worse. The following are some points which stop us from getting out of problems.

1. Victim mentality

Victim mentality is an acquired personality trait in which a person tends to recognize or consider themselves as a victim of the negative actions of others, and to behave as if this were the case in the face of contrary evidence of such circumstances. People who have this victim mentality feel they are the only ones facing problems are start feeling depressed. People having this victim mentality like people giving sympathy to them. Victim mentality is harmful because you will always feel that you won't be able to get out of the problem.

2. We don't like to face problems

We think that neglecting a problem is the best way to solve it but it is not true. Neglecting a problem will only add up more problems to your present situation and will make the situation even worse. Neglecting a problem will only increase the period of suffering and nothing else so it is better to face the problem and to overcome it early.

3. Identifying others as the cause for an undesired situation and denying a personal responsibility for one's own life or circumstances.

Taking responsibility for the situation helps to solve the problem easily because when we accept our fault we understand the situation better. When we become aware of our mistakes we can overcome problems easily.

Personal experience

Last year when the whole pandemic started the biggest problem for me was studies because during lockdown we were going to spend a lot of time in our house with our mobile phones. I was really worried because I knew I will be wasting more time on cell phones. After all, we had so much time and nothing to do during the start of the lockdown. At the start, it seemed fine because I felt watching movies or Youtube videos or consuming social media after online lectures will not cause a problem but it did. I felt I need these dopamine hits because there was nothing to do besides studies and attending online lectures but after some time it became an addiction and I started overuse of social media. Consuming social media is fine and normal but overuse is not beneficial. Overuse can make that thing a distraction like our mobile phones were made to help human beings connect but now they are causing a big problem because we are using it beyond a limit. When I realized there was a big problem and I should reduce my screen time and concentrate on studies it was quite late or maybe I felt it was late and then I neglected the problem and to keep my mind deviated from the actual problem, I again started consuming social media. Dopamine hits give you a temporary pleasure because as soon as you will keep your phone aside you will start feeling frustrated and self-doubt will re-surface in your mind.

At the end I would just say facing the problem and instantly acting on it is the best way to solve it. I hope you enjoyed the blog, Thank you.
